Student Intern – Architecture/Interior Design

The  Design Lab Intern supports and maintains the work of the Design Lab (materials  library). This is a part-time role that engages with stakeholders across the firm and externally. Through their work, the Design Lab Intern will gain a deeper understanding about products, materials and the specification process.  They will gain insight in and become familiar with the design process while  supporting project teams across MG2 including our retail, hospitality, multi-family and industrial markets. Additionally, they will learn about sustainable materials and certifications to align with MG2 and other industry sustainability priorities. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Must be available for at least 20 hours per week or more. In the office only. This is not a WFH or hybrid position. Schedule will be set around the intern’s  academic schedule.
  • Expected duration will be 6 – 8 months
  • Maintain the cleanliness organization of the Lab.
  • Oversee the sample returns area and regularly refile samples and coordinate regular sample returns with vendors.
  • Support project teams and Materials Manager in sourcing of materials through sample requests, pricing and lead time inquires, collecting sustainability  documentation, gathering options for review, creating material boards and  other sourcing tasks as needed.
  • Research  sustainable products, sources, certifications and standards for both  project-specific and general use. Regular data updates to vendor database and  other Design Lab spreadsheets. Support the Materials Manager in day-of execution of vendor events and presentations.
  • Foster and maintain professional and productive relationships with vendors and designers.
  • Attend vendor and internal events and presentations to learn about product releases, material knowledge, industry insights and firm priorities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Currently  pursuing a design-oriented degree focused on Interior Architecture, Interior Design, Architecture, Industrial Design or adjacent industries at a 2nd year level or above.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word. 
  • Familiar with other design-related programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, CAD software  (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and rendering programs is useful but not required.

National Hourly Range: 

  • Temporary Intern: $21.00 – $24.00

 Please note that this role is an hourly and non-exempt position, and therefore, is eligible for overtime pay 

 If position is eligible for remote status, ranges may be adjusted. Acknowledging the time employees typically spend in the role, compensation is dependent on applicable years of experience and skillset.
