MG2 Acquires Smaller Seattle Firm That Designs Whole Foods Stores

MG2, the Puget Sound region's third-largest architecture company, said it has acquired another Seattle company, Fuller/Sears Architects.

MG2, the Puget Sound region’s third-largest architecture company, said it has acquired another Seattle company, Fuller/Sears Architects.

MG2 CEO and Chairman Mitch Smith said the acquisition is aimed at increasing MG2’s retail and commercial design practice. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Fuller/Sears’ Bill Fuller and Steve Johnson joined MG2 as principal and associate principal, respectively. Other Fuller/Sears staff members joined MG2 as well, according to MG2.

Fuller/Sears had six employees, according to the company’s LinkedIn page. MG2, a global firm with offices in the United States and Shanghai, has a total of 208 employees locally, the company told the Business Journal in a recent survey. MG2 was ranked the third-largest architecture company in the region based on 2015 revenue of $50.3 million.

Fuller/Sears designs retail centers, retail-based mixed-use projects, mid-rise residential, and office and adaptive reuse projects, including historic buildings. Among its Seattle projects are the new Whittaker Apartments, which has a Whole Foods Market at the base, and the Whole Foods store in the Interbay neighborhood. It also designed Shurgard’s headquarters in Seattle. Located near the shore of South Lake Union, the Shurgard building once housed a Ford assembly plant.
