The MG2 team took Pier 70 down to its heavy timber frame and restored the building with modernized nautical design influences, while preserving the historic spirit of this Seattle icon.
MG2’s Bill Fuller and Steve Johnson were tasked with restoring Pier 70 on Seattle’s Elliot Bay. By taking the historic building down to its original heavy timber frame, adding new pilings and re-forming the lateral structural system, MG2 executed this 140,000 square foot adaptive reuse project. The scope included project use evaluation, master planning, architectural design, documentation and construction administration. A mixture of traditional and modern design as well as nautical references are woven throughout the office, restaurants and retail spaces. A new 10,000 square foot restaurant at the west end features an extensive outdoor dining area while the office spaces above expose historic timber structure. Water views are maximized from all angles of this restored Seattle icon.
