MG2’s entitlement and design leadership on the Grand Hyatt Seattle helped to realize a landmark mixed-use development in the city’s central business district.

Urban high-rise hotel projects are often difficult to develop. The success rate is even slimmer when you add the complexities of a public-private venture for a mixed-use development covering a full city block. The Grand Hyatt Seattle is one of the rare pioneering examples of success.

MG2 led the planning and design for the 30-story hotel, which anchors a development consisting of hospitality, retail, and an expanded exhibition hall for the Washington State Convention Center. Over a five-year period, the MG2 design team shepherded the project through a multitude of public hearings, extensive permit processes, and the challenges of multiple ownership interests and project teams.

The result is an elegant AAA Four Diamond Hotel suited for business and events with nearly 26,000 SF of meeting space, a 150-seat business theater, and a host of restaurant, health, and spa amenities.
